Meal Planning, part two

Yesterday, we started taking inventory of what was already on hand, and rotated stock.  Excellent start; you’ve began reducing your grocery bill by eliminating the risk if bringing home duplicate items (over-stocking works well for dried goods, not so well for perishables).

As illustrated by the “3 day chicken” example I gave yesterday, meal planning can be simple, and result in balanced, nutritional meals that will fill your family without breaking the bank.  By knowing what you currently have on hand, you can now begin to design a dinner plan.  So, what are your favourite meals?

Meal planning – save money and time, and eat well

You’ve just finished another long day at work.  Or perhaps the day was spent chauffeuring the children from one appointment to another.  In any event, it’s dinner time, everyone is hungry, and you have no idea what you’re going to make.

The easy thing to do is to pick up the phone, and call for pizza.  But… now you’re serving your family a meal that is high in calories, sodium, and cost.  Let’s not mention the fact that any concept of portion size just flew out the window with the last of your willpower.

Sound even remotely familiar?  And how does this fit with the New Year’s resolutions that you just made?

2012, here we are!

It’s a challenge being a Mom!  There are so many demands made of us, and if we aren’t completely orgnanised, we are the ones who pay for it.

2012 is a new year, a chance to make new good habits, let go of some of the bad habits, and hopefully move forward with our families to making a better life for ourselves.

Resolutions… do you make them?  Do you follow through with them?  80% of people who make resolutions today will have failed by January 20th.  In fact, during the course of the year, only 8% will actually stick for the full 365 days.  Not great odds… yet, we continually set ourselves up to fail.
